Biography:

Kurt McVay was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. His fascination of glass began when he ventured into glass blowing at 17 years of age. He pursued his college education at Central Washington University where he received a BA in Economics.

McVay worked at Pilchuck Glass School preparing glass for students and learning the art of fusing glass through his own self-studies. After reading about the techniques of glass fusing as well as through trial and error, he mastered fused glass. He has been a pioneer in the rediscovery of fused glass for the past 20 years.

McVay enjoys making functional pieces of art since useful objects often express shared spiritual or aesthetic ideals. His inspiration comes mainly from Japanese aesthetic design, as well as modern art. All of McVay's glass pieces are food, microwave, and dishwasher safe.

Producing a piece of fused glass is a three-day process of repeated melting and coolings. It is this very process which produces an incredible variety of patterns within each piece, making McVay's work unique in it's own detail.
