BACKGROUND Lise grew up in a family where everyone was a professional artist or musician. In 1982, Lise began in commercial art. Gradually she combined her father's teachings with those of new teachers. Her mediums are primarily pastel, watercolor, acrylic, and experimental mix media. Her father and sister are both nationally known artists, and her mother was a piano teacher. Lise and her sister Cathy greatly enjoy sharing their art together, frequently confer by long distance, and paint together as often as possible. From 1960-1985, Lise worked as a professional violinist. She was a solo recitalist and a guest soloist with many orchestras in the North and Midwest. These experiences have been expressed in a number of past paintings. She also performed in the West Coast Chamber Orchestra, Portland Orchestra, and in numerous freelance jobs with the Oregon Symphony musicians from 1969-1985. REPRESENTATION IN TRAVELING EXHIBITS Lauren Rogers Museum of Art ( Degas Pastel Society Exhibit) SHOWS Numerous solo and group shows: at Attic, Gango, Ryan and the Salishan. ART CAREER Professional gallery artist, Sign designer, illustrator, 1982-2001 and 2005-2013 OTHER EXPERIENCE 1 year painting in Kyoto, Japan (1988-89)

Lise Shearer Statement

Light, texture, atmosphere, and color interactions: these all fascinate me as a means of expressing what I see and experience. It is exciting to see unexpected things happening as I paint. I then can react to them with my imagination, always tempered with realism. My approach is to plan loosely, so I have the freedom to let what's happening inside me intermingle with what's happening on the paper. I also enjoy very much the process of experimenting with new mixed media so I can broaden my artistic vocabulary and range of expression.
