Yiqian Shu

Yiqian Shu Biography

Born in Shanghai, China, in 1941, Shu and his family now reside in Oregon, United States, where the lush valley and verdant forests remind him of his native homeland.

Created with acrylic on canvas and acrylic on rice paper, the entrancing paintings of Yiqian Shu have a dreamlike quality. By presenting the beauty and serenity he finds in nature, he reveals its spirituality. “As I wander through this fascinating world, woven with the rhythm of color, I wish to explore the heavenly beauty of nature that I treasure within my heart,” he writes. “Driven by the light of the sun, I use my emotions, wisdom and skills to make color and line come together in peaceful poetry. I want to create water, mountains and forests that sing and dance with brilliant color. The blazing sun’s power gives me everlasting inspiration, and I hope to express all that is within my heart.”

Shu is member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. His art has appeared in a number of books and magazines. Shu's work is included in the collections of prestigious museums as well as private and corporate collectors.

During a professional career that has spanned near a half century, Shu has garnered numerous honors and awards. He is listed in the “Who’s Who of Contemporary Chinese Artists” (1990) and “The Album of Contemporary Chinese Artists” (1992). In 1998, he was awarded the silver prize in the World Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Competition in Beijing. In 2001, he was honored by the Oregon State Art Committee to the Exhibition of Yiqian Shu Excellent Art Achievements at the Oregon Governor’s Mansion. In 2002, Mill Pond Press companies, the leading art publisher in the United States, has published his paintings as limited giclees canvas prints distributed to Canada, France, Belgium, Monaco, Switzerland, Great Britain, and the United States. In addition, his artwork has been exhibited in Bulgaria, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan.

In 2004, Shu is listed in the archive of Tate Museum in London, the United Kingdom. In 2009, he received the “Rising Star of the Galaxy” award in the 19th “Best of America” National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society annual membership art exhibition. On January 4, 2010, he was honored Outstanding Chinese Achievement Award for his art accomplishment at first global Chinese Business Summit in Las Vegas, Nevada.
