Gary Lawrence Biography

Gary Lawrence has been a professional artist for more than 45 years, drawing inspiration from his deep love of nature. He founded the Lawrence Gallery in 1977. As an artist, Lawrence bases his creations on deceptively simple subject matter - a bird hidden in the grass, a fish swimming through water or groups of flowers.

He has received many awards including First Place, Kinetic Sculpture Race, Ferndale California, and Second Place, Modern Sculpture Division, All-Oregon Artists. He has exhibited at the Mayor's Invitational Art Show in Salem Oregon and continues to participate as a juror for various Oregon art exhibitions.

Lawrence's work is featured in many public and private collections including the US Bank, Martin Selig of Seattle, Salem Public Library, City of Sunriver, Sundstrand Data Control Inc, Colfax Community Church, Western Kraft Paper Group, First Interstate Bank, Lake Oswego Library, Sunrise Forest Products, Syntron Corp and Northwest Natural Gas.

Gary Lawrence Statement

"My work could be considered an artistic contradiction. My collaborations gracefully combine the power and strength of stainless steel and bronze as airy and light. I love to feel the force and power of metal as I make sparks fly. Yet I see the surface as soft, gentle and delicate. I strive to communitcate my emotioins through my work, and I am pleased if this touches others. While I am wandering through the fascinating world woven with colors, I like to explore the beauty of Mother Nature. The emotion driven by the sun make color and line become peaceful poetry. Let water, mountain and forest sing and dance with brilliant color. Let my hope express my heart."
